Winter 2012-2013

Major stores cause bluff erosion of up to 30 feet threatening the closure of Baxter Road. Town of Nantucket officials begin process of planning for what to do if homes are stranded. SBPF proposes a Public Private Partnership with the Town to install an erosion protection system to keep Baxter Road open and simultaneously to put in place a cooperative back-up plan for an alternative access road if keeping Baxter open fails. Town and SBPF enter in to a Memorandum of Understanding defining their partnership agreement in early Summer 2013 to explore construction of a 4000 foot rock revetment from Sankaty Light House to extent of erosion at mid-Baxter.
